Good for the body...and so much more

October 11, 2016

Just what am I talking about here? Exercising! As much as I might not like it at times, I know that exercising is so important for my overall health and well-being. I know, I know, we have all been inundated with the studies on the importance of exercising and been told over and over again how beneficial it is to exercise regularly…well, here I go with my (short) spiel!

I exercise to set myself up for a healthier life; plain and simple. When you can get on a regular exercise routine, you are not only doing your body good, but you are also doing good things for your mental health. I know we have all seen many studies on the multiple benefits of exercising, but some of my favorite reasons for getting up and getting active are:

  • A natural sleep aid
  • Builds and maintains healthy muscles, bones and joints
    • Which helps to reduce the chance of falls and broken bones
  • Strengthens and boosts the immune system
  • Improves mental acuity
  • Improves confidence
  • Increases energy
  • Reduces stress and anxiety

(See, there are so many more reasons to exercise than to just lose weight!)

I have been with Partners for Active Living (PAL) for just shy of one month now, and I cannot express how much I love the mission and vision of this organization. PAL’s mission revolves around these key points: get active, get healthy, and get outside. I enjoy coming in to my job every day and working to make these goals a reality for Spartanburg residents. We want to make it as easy as possible for you to walk out your front door and find some way to be active. So, if you don't have one already, start a new exercise routine and see how you feel a week later...I bet you will like the results!
