The Mary Black Foundation Rail Trail is a 1.9 mile rail-to-trail conversion from a former Norfolk Southern railroad corridor that is a showpiece of the Daniel Morgan Trail System. It is also a point of connection with the Palmetto Trail.
This paved urban trail came to be known as the MBF Rail Trail, or simply “The Rail Trail” to many local residents. The Trail parallels two major roads and connects many neighborhoods to downtown Spartanburg.
The Trail is located adjacent to many restaurants, retail businesses, and recreational facilities. Conveniently located between South Pine Street and Union Street, the trail has access points at 295 East Henry Street and at 105 Country Club Road and is wheel-chair accessible. Additional parking is available along Glendale Road and behind Flock Shop at 970 S. Pine St.
The Rail Yard is a community park along the trail, featuring an amphitheater, covered picnic area, and the Panthers Play 60 obstacle course.
Spartanburg's first dog park is a partnership between the City of Spartanburg and PAL. Now featuring a small dog area and a large dog area, the Rail Tail Dog Park is a great place to take your best friend!
Developed through a partnership with Spartanburg-based R.L. Jordan Oil Co., Partnership for Active Youth, and the City of Spartanburg, the park includes street-style features such as steps, rails, ramps, and ledges. The park also includes a flow course with a pyramid and concrete boxes, a euro gap, a quarter pipe, a bowl, a spine, a camel hump, and an eight-foot vertical ramp leading back into the pyramid.
Skateboards, scooters, and inline skates are allowed. No bikes are allowed in the skate park.
