To create opportunities for active living and healthy eating for everyone, centered around Spartanburg County.
Take the Eat Local Pledge The Passport Challenge
The Pick Spartanburg campaign is PAL’s countywide initiative to support a strong, sustainable local food system — while making it fun and rewarding for you to eat closer to home. Whether it’s a roadside stand, farmers market, or a downtown restaurant that sources from area farms, you’re not just making a meal — you’re making a difference for your health, your family, and our great local farmers, vendors, restaurants, chefs, roasters, and other producers. From boosting the local economy to promoting healthy lifestyles, every bite helps to tell the story about where we live!
Pick up your Eat Local Passport at the PAL office or Hub City Farmers Market, and start earning stamps at participating farms, markets, and restaurants. Fill your passport and unlock fun perks — from exclusive merch to invites to community food events.
How It Works:
Your passport includes 15 locations to get you started and space for 16 more of your own! Below are examples of local food businesses where you can earn stamps and signatures.

Don’t forget to let us know you’re signing up to Eat Local. Your pledge helps us track how the local food movement is growing in Spartanburg. You're part of something big—thank you for choosing to Eat Local!
Fruits and veggies lose most of their nutrients within 24 hours of being picked. Locally grown food, harvested at peak ripeness, maintains maximum nutrient density, unlike produce transported long distances.
Supporting local farmers directly bolsters the local economy. Money spent here stays close to home and can be reinvested directly into businesses and services within our Spartanburg community! PAL works with almost 35 local farmers.
Eating local benefits the environment by reducing carbon emissions, preserving resources through sustainable farming, and supporting local economies.
Fruits and veggies are full of antioxidants. These are vital in helping prevent certain cancers and heart diseases. They also help improve our immune system and provide us with important vitamins and minerals.
When you purchase from the PAL Food Hub, you're not only choosing nutrient rich foods for your family, but you're giving families in need access to healthy food, too. Each purchase from the PAL Food Hub allows us to donate fresh, local produce to members of our community that otherwise might not have access to nutrient dense foods.
