PAL Awarded JM Smith Grant

March 29th 2017

One of the major features of the park on the MBF Rail Trail is the NFL Play 60. Imagine NFL Combine meets American Ninja Warrior obstacle course: that is how the course is described. Charlotte, North Carolina has two NFL Play 60 courses that draw users from across all sectors of the community. We are hopeful to add a similar facility in Spartanburg, which will be the first in South Carolina. We are one step closer thanks to a very generous gift from JM Smith Foundation. In order to receive the grant, we must raise an additional $200,000 to close the needed funding gap.

According to Panthers Director of Community Relations Riley Fields, “The Carolina Panthers Play 60 Challenge Course will engage kids in creative and active ways while promoting the NFL's Play 60 initiative, which encourages kids to get 60 minutes of daily physical activity. The course includes fun and interesting obstacles designed to develop speed, agility, balance and coordination in both children and adults. An automated timing device allows participants to time themselves through the course, which also featured a timed 40-yard dash.”
