Things I Think About When I Ride My Bike to Work

March 8, 2017
  1. Crossing Pine Street is more scary than dangerous. That may be an even better reason to improve it.
  2. I saw a guy wearing a high-visibility yellow safety vest while driving his car. I think that is a good idea as I could see him clearly. Maybe drivers should wear helmets, too.
  3. I keep thinking about Seattle taking out some of their traffic signals, replacing them with 4-way stop signs or roundabouts. They say too many people speed up to get through yellow lights, and don’t pay attention to other users.
  4. We have a problem with drivers running red lights in Spartanburg.
  5. Riding to work makes me a happier person. And a better one.
  6. 40,200 people died in traffic related incidents in 2016. The main culprit: speed.
  7. It’s fun to be part of the resurgence of a small city.
  8. I’ve given newcomers advice not to cut someone of in traffic because chances are good you know them. That’s a good way to think about people on bikes, too.
  9. Still thinking about this one: A community’s issues are usually “path” issues and not “goal” issues. Think about that on your next run/walk/ride/sit.
  10. I like passing through the world at 12 miles per hour.
