Pedaling to Produce

August 30, 2016

Riding a bike for transportation can be tough work! I should know, because that’s how I get around. Still I am happy to report I have been able to reach many fresh food options! The Saturday Farmer’s Market has been a great success for me, and the fact that it has a double SNAP program means that you can get a lot of bang for your buck. I especially love getting fresh bread, and just bought my first farm eggs.

When Saturdays aren’t an option, I found that Hub City Co-op has lots of interesting organics to look at. I think that they have almost too many options, but I love that I can get loose spices and granola. It’s easy to find healthy breakfast options there. It’s a little far on my bike, and I am not used to all these hills!

Another not Saturday option is Bellews Produce. While more challenging to get to than Hub City Co-op or the Farmers Market, Bellews had a great amount of fresh produce, like sweet potatoes and Gala apples from North Carolina. I got a bit lost on my way to and from the store, and found the biggest hill I have ever attempted to ride up on Wofford campus.

All these great options for healthy eating, and I’ve only been in Spartanburg for a month! I can’t wait to find out what else Spartanburg has in store and in stores for me!
